LaserJet Printer Advice

Before you purchase a printer you need to consider many factors,
things like, whether you want a color or monochrome printer, do
you want to print text or images. Printers are a long term
investment and you’d be wise to weigh many factors before making
the right choice.

Laser printers can draw crisper lines than inkjets. Laser
Printers cost less than inkjets in the long run. They are also
the perfect choice if you want to print large documents.
Ideally, from running cost and maintenance perspective, they are
the perfect choice for anything above home office. One aspect
that laser printers are poor at is when it comes to printing
photos. Laser printers are best suited for printing text because
of their ability to store device fonts.

Laser printers have the capability of printing on a wide variety
of media types. They are the fastest type of printers and can
handle huge volumes of input, and also, deliver large volumes of
output.

Whether you want to go for a monochrome or color printer, it’s a
choice which you need to be making carefully. Color printers can
be too expensive to maintain and use. Also, don’t get attracted
by few color printouts that you see from the printer. Checkout
the price it takes to replace the cartridges. Also, make sure
there is a separate black cartridge in the printer, as this
saves color ink and makes using color printers more economical.

If the printer is to be used in an office, it is better to
purchase a duplexing unit by shelling some extra money. The
money you save in the form of paper, by allowing the users to
duplex through the duplexing option - via the driver interface,
will be more than the initial cost, if you were to go without a
duplexing unit. You may want to checkout the connectivity
options and the ability to upgrade the connectivity. If you plan
to use multiple media types, you may want to go for a printer
with multiple drawers.

A short checklist when choosing laser printers:-

1) Do you want to print lots of text documentation? 2) Do you
want a very fast printer? 3) Are you going to use the printer in
the office? 4) How many media types do you think you would be
using - most of the time? 5) Are you going to use the printer to
print text rather than photos? 6) Do you want color printouts
and don’t mind high running costs?

If you answered no to all of the above, a Laser printer is not
what you need. If you answered yes to most of the them except
(6), a mono laser printer with add-ons is your choice.

If you answered yes to all of them, the color laser printer with
add-ons is what you are looking for.

Basics of Investment Planning

In today’s current investment markets, there has been an increase in the number of individuals deciding and adhering to an investment plan. Perhaps this is caused by the drastic increases in the cost of living or the profound insecurity about the future of social security, and retirement funds. Many families are looking for investments plans which help them build two funds - one for the future and one for the present. Most people are not interested in purchasing stocks and bonds. This is both time consuming and complicated.

Investment plans essential allow the an investor to buy a set number of stocks, bonds, and securities. Purchasing is done on a regular and consistent basis. Funds for the investment are taking directly from a check, savings, or money market accounts automatically. These money is used to buy stocks and bonds that were pre-decided upon. For the most part you can change any of variables at anytime. These variables include amount, frequency, and what stocks are bought. There may be fees associated with changes. Make sure these fees are known before you sign your contract with your broker. However, if you are looking for more freedom most online investments firms allow you to change your variables anytime for free.

The next important step in an investment plan is figure out how much money you would like to invest.

It is a good idea to have a household budget. This will allow you to clearly analyze how much extra money is available for investing. Due to the long term nature of investment plans, you would suffer a financial lost if you had pull out early because you invested more money then you could afford. Make sure the amount you pick is readily available for each time the investment comes up. Remember just because you have extra money now does not mean in the future you will. Many investors come up short several months after starting their investments plans because they did not budget for an emergency fun. If you do feel you are at point where you can not no longer make a regular investment more investment companies will allow you to reduce or hold the next schedule investment.

Now you know how an investment plan works and you have the money to invest. The next question is how do you decide what to invest in. Research is the key component to this step. It does take time to decide but it is well worth the effort. Make sure you find stocks that have a history of performing well in the long term. At the time of purchase they may be expensive however they will probably also continue to increases which will directly benefit you. As you feel more and more comfortable with investing feel free to add more stocks and bonds to your portfolios. Many financial experts believe that diversification is a great way to increase your investment profits.

Investment plans are a great for the casual investor to make safe, low risk investments which will lead, in the long term, to increased profit and financial stability.

14 Habits For A Happier You and I

Many people exercise, play sports, or know someone who does. Having done so almost my entire life, I have a few pearls of wisdom. To gain an advantage, focus on a full body workout. In sports your base (waist down) are more important than your upper body except the mind and heart. It will bring more life to your conversations and rejuvenate your outlook.

I met a 74 year old man playing full court basketball. He was a teammate of Oscar Robertson (The Big O) on the Cincinnati Royals. He’s a joy to watch because of his subtle technique and confidence. He has a team called “Man Up”. In an effort to “One Up You”, let me know how the following works for you.

If you would like to read the definitive book on basketball, I encourage you to check out The Art of Basketball by Oscar Robertson (The Big O). Be sure to interpret the words on the pages correctly and add your touch. Here’s wishing you a lifetime of swishes and assists.

I’m sure for those who play other sports there is a book. Use your imagination to visually practice the techniques. Try blocking 30 minutes of time, identify the skill(s), count the number of mental repetitions, and sets. Then, try it on the field of play. I think you will like the results. Be sure to lead a balanced life.

Good sportsmanship has its privileges. I recently attended a high school basketball game and am disgusted at the behavior of a few. It must be stopped because it sends the wrong message. Additionally, realize it is about winning the game. A negative habit will only hinder your progress as you progress to the next level and beyond. Be in control.

1. Listen to your body and check with your physician before starting an exercise program

2. Do a variety of exercises

3. Play a sport

4. If a body part hurts, don’t aggravate it & seek medical attention

5. During the exercise, mentally focus on the body part you’re exercising

6. At least two genuine smiles while resting during an hour workout

7. Vary cardio routines including length of time, day, and speed

8. Have at least one brief conversation before or during workout

9. Compete with a sub-goal in mind (repetition required before going to
the next level(s)) and reaching a goal

10. Less is more if done correctly

11. Drink eight glasses of water a day …. Start the day with one glass & drink less with meals …. Don’t drink it all at once

12. Eat a variety of nourishing foods (include some fruit, one walnut, one pecan, two almonds)

13. Drink no more than 1.5 cups of your favorite sport drink after exercise

14. Don’t eat within two hours of exercising for optimal stomach strength

How do airline credit cards work?

Airline credit cards are a result of collaboration between
credit card companies and different airlines. The concept of
airline credit cards works well for frequent travelers, who gain
in a number of ways by using airline credit cards.

Purchases made through the credit cards earn points for the
card holders; these points can be redeemed for free miles with
the airline, at a car wash, hotels, etc. Points are also earned
by flying with the chosen airline. The points are earned on the
basis of predetermined point levels. This helps fliers to
calculate the number points required to qualify for free travel.
It is important to be aware of the consequences of card
inactivity over a period of time and factors that can lead to
points expiration. There may also be a limit to the number of
points that can be accumulated in a year. Some airline credit
cards have a maximum limit of 100,000 points in a year and
points lapse if the card is not used for three years.

Airline credit cards work in the same way as credit cards but
may charge a slightly higher interest rate. Annual percentage
rate (APR) is used to measure the cost of credit. The methods
used for calculating the rate of interest are two cycle average
daily balance and average daily balance. The former, which
considers the average of the current and previous balance, works
out to be more expensive; this is something one should bear in
mind while selecting an airline credit card. Different airline
credit cards offer different rates; the rate of interest also
depends upon the card fees, bonus points, and the grace period.
A high rate of interest need not be a worry for card holders who
do not have a balance to be paid at the end of the month. All
the same, there are airline credit cards that offer 0% interest
on balance transfers for an introductory period and also charge
a low interest rate.

Airline credit cards have a preset spending limit that affects
the amount to be paid monthly; certain airline credit cards
offer a very high spending limit and even allow users to exceed
the limit, the excess amount being settled in the next month.
Airline credit cards can be of greater value if they are
compatible with other frequent-flyer programs as they enable
cardholders to use the points earned to the best possible
advantage. An annual fee is charged by most airline credit cards
in order to cover the costs of the benefits offered. Cash
advances may also incur a fee, which can have a minimum value of
$5 and can go up to $50, depending upon the credit card company
and the advance taken.

Spyware, What It Is, What It Does, And How To Stop It

Spyware is software that runs on a personal computer without the knowledge or consent of the owner of that computer. The Spyware then collects personal information about the user or users of the infected computer. The personal information collected is usually the name of the user; the users email address, Websites visited, online shopping habits, as well as various other information about the user.

Spyware is also sometimes known as Scumware, and Adware. Although Adware is slightly different in that the makers claim that the users are aware that they are collecting information about the user. Sometimes this is true, other times it is not. Many times these terms are used interchangeably because many feel that they present the same problems. This however goes to the definition of what Spyware is, making it sometimes difficult to combat from a legal standpoint. This is generally due to how Adware works in that the user downloads a program that they feel is useful for some reason and, that program also collects user information as described above. Although the government is currently taking steps to protect users from these programs it is a slow process because of the current definitions.

Once this information is collected, the Spyware then can send your personal information to advertisers that will then send you targeted advertisements through annoying popups, and spam in your email. They can also hijack your web browser and redirect you to a page that they want you to see with their advertising targeted to you through your personal information. This redirecting is sophisticated enough to notice what you are attempting to purchase on one site and can redirect you to another site with the same or similar products so that you make the purchase through them.

In addition to the problems of “stealing” your personal information, Spyware runs in the background on your computer using up valuable system resources. This is a major cause of your PC “running slow.”

The statistics are 9 of 10 computers connected to the internet are infected with some type of Spyware. This could probably be taken a step further to say all PC’s connected to the internet are infected with some type of Spyware. The reason for this is because all of the best Anti-Spyware software on the market today can only stop software that it knows or recognizes as Spyware. These Spyware killers work in a way similar to Anti-Virus software and need to be updated on a regular basis to be effective.

Spyware is also a large cause of popups occurring on your computer as well. Popups are messages that “pop up” onto your computer screen generally through your internet browser. These popups can be reduced and at times stopped completely by using a web browser other than IE (Internet Explorer) such as Firefox by Mozilla.org and Opera located at:

http://www.mozilla.org/
http://opera.com/

Both are adept at stopping popups from occurring. If you choose to use one of these browsers be sure to periodically check for updates to get the best protection available.

One of the ways to defend against Spyware is to use a third party firewall. Although the current version of Windows XP comes with a firewall it is not effective at stopping Spyware as of this writing. Third party firewalls can block unwanted traffic from passing to and from the internet to your computer. Some of the better third party firewalls listed below are:

• Kerio Personal Firewall

• ZoneAlarm Firewall

• Sygate Firewall

Kerio Personal Firewall can be downloaded from its Website at the following URL:

http://www.kerio.com/us/kpf_download.html

Although they have a limited free version it does not provide the same level of protection as the paid version does. I would recommend the paid version of their firewall at $45.00. Next there is ZoneAlarm which is perhaps one of the more recognized firewall around. You can get the free version for non business users at the following URL:

http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/
znalm/freeDownload.jsp

business users can get the paid version here
http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/home.jsp

Sygate also has a good firewall that is available for $39.95 available at the URL:

http://smb.sygate.com/products/spf_pro.htm

Firewalls are effective at stopping many Spyware programs as well as other potential problems but they are not a cure all. To be more effective you will want to use Anti-Spyware software along with your firewall.

Some of the top Anti-Spyware programs are Webroot Spy Sweeper which you can buy for $29.95 and Spyware Doctor also $29.95, Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition which is free. Also free is Spybot Search and Destroy. All are good and considered some of the best at Spyware detection and removal. All four of these programs can be downloaded at download.com at URL:

http://www.download.com/spyware-center/2001-2023_4-0.html

You can also use the above URL for additional information about Spyware.

Also available now is the Microsoft beta version of its Spyware blocker.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?
FamilyID=321cd7a2-6a57-4c57-a8bd-dbf62eda9671&displaylang=en

Unfortunately there are also some very unscrupulous people out there who will purposefully cause your computer problems if you use their software. This software will often “miss” or “overlook” some Spyware leaving it unsuspectingly on your computer. Worse yet, some of these supposed Anti-Spyware programs will actually place Spyware onto your computer as well. Some of these programs are Spyblaster, Spyware Assasin, as well as many others. The best way to check to see if you are using an Anti-Spyware program that fits into this category is to visit The following URL:

http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm

If you are using any of the programs in this listing you should remove it immediately and use one of the known good programs such as the ones I listed above to check your computer.

You can also keep up to date and learn more about the on going threat of Spyware by visiting the following websites.

How to Organize Your Cabinets - Containers

I just did my Tupperware cabinet last weekend. I can tell you exactly what I did and you can determine if this system will work for you.

Pull EVERYTHING out of the cabinet. Wipe down the cabinet while it’s empty.

Look through your pile and determine what pieces you never use. Don’t put them back. Put them in a bag and donate them to Good Will, Salvation Army or sell them on eBay.

Look through your pile again and seperate the items into two more piles. One pile is the items you use all the time. One pile is the items you want to keep, but only use occasionally.

Go through each pile, examine each item and find its matching lid. If anything is damaged or missing a lid, write down the tiny numbers from the bottom of the Tupperware piece along with a description of the item.

Starting with the occasional use items, stack them the best way possible and put them away. Since these are only occasional use items, they can go in the back of the cabinet. Keep the lids seperate. (You can stack more together without the lids.) Then put away the often used items closer to the front of the cabinet. Again, keep the lids seperate.

Either use one or two pieces of Tupperware to hold the lids or order The Place For(tm) Seals. Contact your Tupperware rep with your list of items that are damaged or missing lids (only Tupperware brand, of course) and they can get you replacements.

A Christmas Story (DVD) Review

Adapted from humorist Jean Shepherd’s hilarious memoir In God We Trust: All Others Pay Cash, A Christmas Story has climbed the ranks of the annual holiday classic films list to claim its spot among the hallowed elite of the genre. If you’ve ever tried to lick a frozen telephone pole, or found yourself in a ridiculous bunny outfit on Christmas morning, then A Christmas Story is one comedy you won’t want to miss…

A Christmas Story focuses on one central character, fifth grader Ralphie (Peter Billingsley) and his all-encompassing quest to receive a Daisy Brand Red-Ryder BB rifle for Christmas, although I don’t think he realizes he could put an eye out with one of those things… Thwarting Ralphie at every turn are his mother (Melinda Dillon) and father (Darren McGavin) who seem absolutely oblivious to their young son’s dream.

Unable to come right out and say what he wants, Ralphie drops subtle hints around the house such as placing clipped-out magazine ads for the gun in his parents’ nightstand reading material. When prodded for his true Christmas wish, Ralphie blurts out that he wants a Daisy Brand Red-Ryder BB gun, but his mother’s only reply is, “You don’t want one of those. You’ll shoot your eye out!”

A Christmas Story is filled with memorable scenes and highlights that have helped built a cult following around the life of a young boy obsessed with Christmas who is surrounded by a varied cast eccentric friends and family members. When Ralphie’s father beams with pride at his ability to win a newspaper contest, his proudly displays his prize in the front window of the family home, a three-foot lamp with a woman’s long, stocking-covered leg as its base. Embarrassed, Ralphie’s mother “accidentally” breaks it, sparking a war of words with her husband. Meanwhile, Ralphie dreams of saving the whole family with his Red-Ryder BB gun, thus earning the family’s undying gratitude.

One of the best sequences in the film involves a family trip to the local department store, where Ralphie and his little brother Randy meet with the store Santa Clause near closing time. Following a long, extended wait to reach the front of the line to see Santa, Ralphie is so brimming with anticipation to tell Santa what he wants that he can’t speak. So, Santa convinces Ralphie that he wants a football. But before Santa’s helper can push Ralphie down the North Pole slide, Ralphie blurts out his true wish, only to hear Santa’s reply, “You’ll shoot your eye out with that, kid!”

One of the best Christmas comedies ever made, although few come close to National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, A Christmas Story is a memorable holiday classic the entire family can enjoy. Much like It’s A Wonderful Life, the film has only grown in popularity in the years since its release. The timeless nature of its subject matter lends itself well to annual holiday viewing, and it remains one of a handful of “must see” films for the Christmas season…
