Do You Know How To Use Window Coverings ?

Window coverings serve an important role in your home,
giving you privacy and also protecting your furniture and
décor from the harshness of prolonged, direct sunlight.
But the range of choices is so wide, including blinds,
shades, shutters and curtains, that some homeowners have a
hard time deciding which they prefer, or whether they can
mix their window coverings according to the room where they
are installed.

There are no hard and fast rules about what you should use,
versus what you could use. The decision is up to your
tastes, preferences, and what works with your decorating
scheme. What you decide is great for one room, may not fit
in another, so you switch from blinds in the bathroom to
window shades in the bedroom, and that is just fine, as
long as you are happy with the way the décor looks when
you’re done.

For example, the living room is where most people entertain
visitors and family, and because it is often a “public”
room, people tend to go for more distinguished or striking
window coverings, that may include shutters or curtains,
and occasionally a combination of both.

A beautiful set of lined drapes, with sheers underneath,
and topped by a decorative swag, are not only functional,
but very decorative and can be coordinated with the
furniture, or serve as an accent to the overall scheme of a
room. Sometimes simplicity creates an equal impact, with a
set of antique slatted shutters that fold out from
underneath a pair of brocaded lined drapes.

Window coverings are an expression of your personal tastes.
The attention you give the details and accessories that go
into making them a part of your home décor, shows your
creativity and sense of style.

In truth, it could be a relief, because once you know what the problem is, there are thngs you can do to turn the condition, and you definitely need to do that. Make A Room Divider To Match Your Decor

A room divider in a theme that compliments your décor can add a unique look to the corner of your room while doubling as a screen to hide a messy area or provide extra storage in the back. A decent room divider can be quite costly, but if you consider yourself to be handy with tools, then you might be able to save a bundle while making a nice custom accent piece for your room.

When deciding on making a room divider, you must first pick out which kind you want to make. There’s 3 basic types of dividers - the folding screen, the flat panel and the hanging curtain.

The folding screen style of room divider typically has 3 or 4 panels, but you can build it with as many as you want. It stands on it’s own when the panels are set at slight angles. To build this type of room divider, you simply make panel frames out of wood - you can build them to any size that suits. Then add the inside panels - insides can be glass, fabric, stained wood, painted wood or anything else that suits your fancy! Finally, assemble each panel to the other with hinges so that each piece folds against the other.

The room divider that is one panel and has feet that hold it up is the easiest to build. Just build the panel frame from wood and put whatever material you want in the middle. Then add some feet on the bottom to hold it up. You may be able to get pre-made feet for it or you can simply build them yourself. Make sure the feet are long enough so that the divider is sturdy when standing.

If you want to build a fabric or beaded divider, you will have to use something to suspend it from the ceiling. A track is nice because then you can slide the divider back if you want to expose the sections of the room. Something like a curtain rod could work, if you can rig something up that doesn’t look strange. Then simply add the curtain or bead panel. You can even use a store bought curtain or make one yourself.

Euro Millions Winning Time: My Passion of Winning the Euro Millions and Living a Lifetime of Luxurious Existance for the Rest of My Life

My friend Ahmed contacts me on the phone to buzz me that he’s found some on-line gambling sites that I must have to check over. I have never really been big into gambling, but I figured OK, I must give it a try. So I tried out some poker and black jack, only honestly, they just aren’t my cup of tea. Then I find these on-line elottery websites and then I figure that over cyberspace I can play lots of different lotteries around the Earth. Right Away to me this looks a heap more joy, so I imagine I will give it a try. To begin with I tried out my luck at euro millions, you know a European lottery. I chose my lottery numbers and then anticipated and imagined that I will win it big. I didn’t on that attempt only when the euro lottery numbers came out; I was extremely surprised to realize that I had in reality come very near to the winning lottery numbers. I tested out a couple of other lotteries, only I felt that I did come so near the first time on the euro millions, that I simply had to give it another shot. To date, I have not scooped millions of pounds, but then, I have won some money, so I continue to play the euro millions and picking e-lottery numbers, going for the big win. I am one of those souls who like to think in the possibility of hitting the jackpot, because it is hard to reckon getting that kind of money any other way.

As for my acquaintance, he still goes on with his passion of online gambling and finds himself at the online casino for at least 60 minutes a day. He too has won some money, but it is up and down and the difference is, when you lose at gambling you usually lose a great deal but when you lose at the lottery, it doesn’t cost you as near as much. I think that the lottery is the only way for me to go and the notion of hitting the jackpot and on top of that, it’s only costing me simply a few pounds “makes it more appealing”.

Decorating for real life and real people

I spent a recent weekend curled up with a stack of decorating magazines. I read them cover to cover - usually back to front, but that’s the way I read most magazines and newspapers. I studied each photograph and tried to determine the particular design concept that was being presented. I looked at the number and placement of accessories, how and where arrangements of items were hung on the walls, choices of color and texture, and flooring selections. Each photo was scrutinized in the minutest detail. At some point I started to wonder for whom these absolutely gorgeous rooms were designed.

Bedside tables held no alarm clocks or clock radios. While there was usually an abundance of decorative items, there were no tissue boxes or eyeglass cases. Dressers displayed beautifully arranged floral creations and perhaps a cut glass perfume bottle or two, with ornamental stoppers. No jewelry boxes, no lotion bottles, none of the everyday stuff of life. I don’t know about you but I want a telephone at the side of my bed. And someplace handy for the TV remote.

And the bathrooms! Don’t even get me started on the bathrooms! Do the users of these bathrooms ever need to replace the toilet paper or the hand soap? Do they have their hair done weekly (maybe daily?) at beauty- or barber-shops and thus have no need of shampoo and conditioner bottles? Toothbrushes, toothpaste and floss? The men don’t have to shave and the women have no need of makeup? Streamlining and organization can only take you so far. Sooner or later you need a place for feminine supplies, room deodorizers, and the extra cotton balls and swabs that don’t fit into the pretty little designer containers. And I can’t be the only person who thinks that a plunger should be stored someplace handy to the location of possible need.

No cords for the lamps, no tangle of wires for the home office computer system. One photograph featured an elegant “work space” with a large bouquet of flowers drooping fetchingly over the printer. I could imagine spent blossoms dropping into the works, and I couldn’t imagine how to open the paper tray without knocking the vase over. I suppose the person who would work at such a desk would have no need of a mouse pad, paper clips, or a pile of sticky notes. I wish I could work like that.

I want to know what the rooms in the photographs look like a week later. Are the same three Granny Smith apples still in perfect position on the glass-topped table? Is the fringe on the cashmere afghan still draped just so over the arm of the rocking chair in the baby’s room? Does the kitchen counter look bare without the tureen of soup and the matching soup bowls? I mean, the soup was eaten, wasn’t it? Am I losing my perspective here?

Show me a playroom after the children have been forced to put away the toys. I’ll bet there are no cunning arrangements of stuffed animals having tea, and the blocks aren’t stacked into just-right pyramids with one block placed in front and a little to the side. The pillows are all over the room and the bedspread is trailing onto the floor. That’s real.

I realize that the decorating magazines present rooms and arrangements that are idealized and stylized. They are intended to give our imaginations a jumping-off point; we are meant to adapt their ideas to our own needs. They do a wonderful job and I will continue to peruse the glossy pages of each publication. Occasionally, however, I’d appreciate a view of a real room, spiffed up for company, perhaps, but real. I want to be able to imagine waking up to the clock radio, to see myself sitting at the computer and actually getting some work done, to know where I would store the supply of makeup without which I cannot face the world. I want to think that I could actually live in the room. Isn’t that the point of the whole exercise? Don’t we all want comfortable homes that suit our life styles, organized and better looking, maybe, but still us?

Go take a look at the pictures in a decorating magazine. See if you agree with me. I think I’m going to go clean out a couple of drawers and straighten a bookcase shelf or two. It won’t end up picture perfect, but it will be real.

Sports footwear is most likely the most necessary piece of equipment you will get so it is critical that you decide on the best pair.

Many people don’t recognise that there are several differences in the way in which sports trainers help your feet. It’s not great for your feet if you participate in football or tennis in the identical footwear that you use for jogging.

Deck Building Basics

In my previous article, “planning for a new deck,” I outlined the steps for planning for a new deck. This article takes the process one step further. We’ll look at how to get started actually building your deck. By this time, I will assume that you have your building permit in hand, a good set of plans, and a materials list. If you don’t have a material list, simply take your plan to your nearest home center or building supply store and have them create one for you. Most lumber yards can actually arrange for delivery of all your materials at one time including all the nails and screws are you will need. This can be quite handy on large projects or if you don’t own a truck or a trailer. The lumber yard will bring all the parts and pieces you will need to build your new deck.

The first place to start, is to set some posts for your deck to rest on. Were I live in the Northeast, we have to deal with the frost and free cycle of winter. When I received my building permit, the code officer made sure to point out that all posts must be secured in country at least 36 inches below the surface of the ground. This will ensure that when the ground freezes the posts of the deck will not heave. Check with your local zoning office to find out what your specifications are for setting posts.

Renting a post hole digger makes setting the posts much easier, especially if you live in an area with a lot of playing or a lot of stone in your soil. I was able to dig a half a dozen holes in less than an hour. Digging the same number of holes my hand would’ve taken me at least half a day so the few dollars I spent on the post hole digger rental was well worth it.

Next, a port some stoning concrete makes into the holes and set the posts. My plan called for 4×4 posts. Your plans may be different. After the posts were in and let the concrete cure according to the directions on the package. I then nailed 2 x 2 joists to the side of the House and around the perimeter of the deck. I used metal choice hangers to hang all the internal joists. You can also tell nailed them but metal choice hangers are stronger and easier to use than trying to toenail large lumber.

There are lots of different types of taking you can use on top of your deck. I choose simple pressure treated lumber. To attach the deck boards to the joists you can use either nails or screws. If you use nails, make sure you use special spiral nails. These help prevent nails from popping. Deck screws are preferable as they are stronger but they are much more expensive than nails when laying out the decking, it is easier to let the deck boards run long and trim them down later once the entire deck surface is finished. When all the deck boards or laid, simply take a circular saw, and cut all the ends off the deck.

For a finished look, attach a skirt board to the exposed edges of the decking and over the rim joists. The last thing to do, if needed, would be to add railing, and or steps. However, these basics should get you started.

Creative Decorating Ideas Using Old Windows

A Room With A View
Have you ever wished you had a great view right outside your bedroom window but all you see when you wake up in the morning is the wall of the next-door neighbor’s house? Well then follow these easy steps to create your own window with a great view.

What You Will Need for This Decorating Project:
1.An old window preferably with the glass still intact. You can find these at flea markets or salvage yards.
2.Poster or picture with a pretty view large enough to put behind the window.
3.2 mug hooks
4.1 nail
5.Wire
6.10 thumbtacks
7.Hammer

If you want to paint the window, do this before moving on to the first step. You should consider though that sometimes the weathered, antique look adds a lot of charm.

How to Get This Look:
- Put the window on the floor and put the poster or picture on it so that the front is facing down.
- Use the thumbtacks to attach the picture or poster to the window.
- Make sure the picture is right side up.
- Lean the window against the wall so that you are looking at the back.
- Put the 2 mug hooks on the back of your window in the top corners.
- Make sure the opening for the mug hooks is facing down.
- Use the wire to create a “hanger” for the window. Secure the two ends of the wire on the mug hooks. Make sure there is a lot of excess wire so that when you hang the window the wire creates a triangle with 4-inch sides.
- Hammer the nail into the wall where you want your window.
- You can now add window treatments to it just as you would a normal window or wrap silk flower garlands around the wire.

Old windows can be used in a variety of ways. Here are just a few more creative ideas for the old window and a plain wall.

Decoupage pressed flowers on the different panes of glass. Try using whole flowers or just petals for an interesting country garden look.

Decoupage postcards from around the world into the panes or pictures of a favorite city, like Paris.

Paint the frame to match your child’s room. Attach clothespins (also painted in a coordinated color) all around the outside of the window. As you child grows attach school pictures to the panes and let them use the clothespins to showcase their drawings, report cards and other mementos. When the child graduates you have a ready-made decoration.

Make etched glass designs in the panes or make faux stained glass out of the windowpanes. Your local craft store should have everything you need to do this, from instructions to materials.

Use the window to create a fun decorative piece in the kitchen. Get a shelf the same width as the window and paint it the same color. Put the shelf on the wall just above the window so they look like one piece. Put mug hooks evenly spaced along the bottom of the window frame and use them to hold cute mugs, wire whisks, ladles, potholders or other items. Put recipe books along with a few decorative items that match your kitchen on the shelf, such as a vase of flowers, decorative plates or a nice clock.

Create a New Bathroom for Under $50

(ARA) - What do you consider the most forgotten room in your house? For many people, the answer is the bathroom. It gets a lot of use, but many of us live in houses where the bathrooms are sorely outdated. Yet having an attractive and well-designed one can make your daily routine that much more pleasant.

Remodeling costs are high, and a lot of us don’t have the time or skills to do it ourselves. But you don’t have to tear up your bathroom to improve it. Here are some easy and inexpensive ideas for updating your bathroom from bgh.com, iVillage.com and Environmental Graphics.

* Add some new towels. You don’t have to buy a whole new set. Just buy a set of hand towels or washcloths in a new color that will complement your existing color scheme. You could get a mix of colors or just one shade. Try rolling them up and keeping them in a basket for an attractive decorative accent.

* Add decorative tile appliqués. “Too often people think they are stuck with the same old tired tiles in their bathrooms,” says Sue Kelley of Environmental Graphics, a company that specializes in decorative products for the home. Kelley’s company provides an easy decorating solution, Stick ‘n Stile, for up-dating your old tiles. Stick ‘n Stile is a decorative tile appliqué product for both the kitchen and bath. You can easily create a new tile design or border by applying the appliqué right over the existing tile. Stick ‘n Stile comes in a fun array of shapes and sizes from whimsical butterflies to contemporary geometric squares to popular palm leaves. In addition to tile, the appliqués can be applied to other surfaces such as plastic and mirrors. The adhesive-backed appliqués are simple to apply and can easily be removed with the heat of a hair dryer.

* Frame your mirror. Make a plain mirror more decorative by creating a custom frame. Cut your choice of molding to fit around the mirror and paint it, using neutral colors or a brushed gold or silver. The frame can be attached to the mirror with liquid glue.

* A new paint color. Have fun by choosing a color that complements your existing tiles, but is a bit unexpected. For instance, if you have 1950s green tiles, try pale yellow. Or if you have black or white tiles, highlight them by painting the walls sage green. If you don’t want to go beyond white, update your color with tone-on-tone neutrals like ecru, oyster, almond or biscuit. Then you can add colorful touches with towels, soaps and candles.

* Get a new shower curtain. For under $20 you can find a distinctive shower curtain with interesting shower hooks that will make a big difference in your bathroom. If the room is small, a clear shower curtain or one in the same color as your bathtub will create the illusion of a bigger bathroom.

* Get rid of an outdated medicine cabinet. You can make a dramatic difference in your bathroom by replacing an old cabinet with a simple, wood-framed mirror. Once the mirror is in place, you may want to add a matching, free-standing storage unit or small table.

* Change your hardware. An easy way to alter the look of your room is to update details like drawer pulls, towel bars, shower controls, robe hooks and soap holders. You could even splurge on a new faucet. If you just want to change a few things, mixing metals is perfectly acceptable.
