You have worked so hard at ornamenting, preparing and baking to fill your home with Christmas cheer so that kin and acquaintances might come together and share in the festivities of the season, so be sure to include great festive games or activities to keep the party young, festive and jolly. Both your invitees and you will enjoy the merriment after the long shopping and holiday prep work of the last few weeks.
Have fun performing this Christmas party games with your family and friends. White Elephant gift exchanges are fun and simple and a extraordinary way to spice up a traditionalistic gift exchange. Each invitee who cares to participate must give a gift.
Everyone sits or stands roughly in a circle around the mass of gifts. Prepare slips of paper equal to the total of presents with understandably inscribed numbers. Be certain to mark 6 from nine, 1 from 7. Every involved guest draws a number and carries onto that slip of paper. On the starting turn, the guest with paper slip #1 chooses a gift, opens it, and all admire it. On the next turn, the guest with paper slip #2 receives the choice of “stealing” any unwrapped present (#1’s) or selecting a wrapped one. If #2 steals #1’s gift, then #1 must open a wrapped gift. On the third turn, the guest with paper slip #3 gets the choice of “stealing” any unwrapped gift (#1’s or #2’s) or taking a wrapped one. If a gift is stolen from you, you can steal a gift, or open a wrapped one.
Rules about “stealing:” A gift cannot be immediately taken back from the invitee who just stole it.
The turn proceeds until a wrapped present is chosen thus the thieving stops. The 4th “owner” of a gift gets to keep it. The gift is “dead” after it has been taken 3 times. “Owners” of “live” gifts must keep them visible and hold them up when requested. The present exchange ends when the last wrapped gift is opened. Usually, invitees are encouraged to perpetuate the gift thieving as long as there are “live” gifts, but no one is indebted to do this.
