Sweet Potato Pie Recipe
List of Ingredients:
- 1 sweet potato (about 1 pound)
- cup softened butter
- 1 cup white sugar
- cup milk
- 2 eggs
- teaspoon ground nutmeg
- teaspoon ground cinnamon
- teaspoon ginger
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 pie crust (9 inch)
Baking Directions:
- Bring a pot of water to a boil. Once the water has reached a rolling boil, place the sweet potato in the pot and allow to boil for between 45 to 50 minutes or until potato is soft and a fork enters easily. However, the potato should not be cooked to the point of falling apart.
- Remove potato from pot and run under cold water. After the potato is cool, remove the skin.
- Place the potato in a mixing bowl and mash thoroughly. Add the softened butter to the mashed potatoes and use a mixer to combine well.
- Add the sugar, milk, eggs, nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger, and vanilla extract. Combine thoroughly by mixing at medium speed. Ensure that the mixture is smooth.
- Take the complete mixture and pour into the empty unbaked 9 inch pie crust.
- Place the pie in the oven which has been preheated 350 degrees. Bake the pie for between 50 and 60 minutes or until done. In order to make sure that the pie is done, insert a knife or toothpick into the pie and remove. If the implement is removed cleanly, then the pie is ready!
- It is normal for the pie to rise in the oven and to sink after it begins to cool.
- The pie can either be served warm or cooled.
