Eight Fast Methods to Lose Weight

1- A good way to start is to pay attention to the items you are eating and cut back on the poor food and introduce healthier food into your diet. After you have this particular aspect in control, the next thing to do is to implement exercise with your plan. It is best to start an exercise program by starting with only 15 to 30 minutes at a time, especially if you are not fond of exercising.
2. You can choose enjoyable food and activities. If you enjoy a activity you will find it easier to exercise in them then you will in one you dont enjoy.
3- You burn calories by the amount effort you make against your weigh, with muscles burning a larger number of calories than fat when compared pound to pound. By working out with weights to build up your muscle and then let the extra lean muscle mass burn up more calories for you.
4 - Eliminate most, but not all, of your carbohydrate intake, as you do need a certain amount to fuel your body. To reduce the number of carbohydrates you are consuming you will need to eliminate white bread and pasta from your diet.

With these tips if you take them one by one you see a difference in weight in no time. Also make sure you check out Proactol Reviews for more tips and info about nourishment and weight reduction from experts.

How to Chose between Hog or Lamb Roasts

A good butcher is vital if you are to obtain a suitable carcass. While your local shop might have the contact, turnover and skill you need to do some checks and ask some questions. It would be safer to approach a specialist catering supplier who will be purchasing and preparing meat to orders received from hotels. When it comes to a competition for the best meat in the market, the chefs and their suppliers tend to come first. Animals come in different sizes. Different breeds can produce carcasses of different sizes and different textures. The variation between carcasses is small but subtle. A good butcher can give advice about the flavour and tenderness of the roast meat. Fat is an issue. It is essential when roasting. The ideal meat will have fat dispersed throughout the meat. If you have the good fortune to live in countries where lamb roasting or hog roasting is customary, the butcher will arrange for it to be attached to your spit before it is chilled. Sadly, increasing regulation means you will have no opportunity to dictate the way your roast is slaughtered and prepared. Then it’s the fun the bit the cooking, you should find a hog roast or lamb roast company to do that for you.

What Exactly is Nitric Oxide? Why is It Such a POWERFUL Bodybuilding Supplement?

What is Nitric Oxide anyway?

The chemical compound nitric oxide is a gas with a chemical formula NO. It is an important signaling molecule in the body of mammals including humans, one of the few gaseous signaling molecules known. Nitric oxide (NO) is not nitrous oxide (N2O) or with nitrogen dioxide (NO2). (Formal definition courtesy of Wikipedia)

What is L-arginine (the key ingredient used to produce Nitric Oxide)?

L-arginine is an amino acid found in grains and fish, meats, supplements and passes through the intestine into the blood. From the blood, it enters endothelial cells, (these are the layer of cells lining the inside of the blood and lymph vessels of the heart) where it is used to produce nitric oxide.

L-arginine can be found in many foods such as meat, poultry, dairy products, and fish. The body also uses arginine to produce nitric oxide, which relaxes blood vessels. For this reason, it has been used to treat cardiovascular disorders such as heart failure, intermittent claudication, impotence, female sexual dysfunction, and interstitial cystitis. (Formal definition courtesy of Wikipedia).

It can also be used as an ergogenic aid to supplement bodybuilding and sports endeavors.

L-arginine supplements cause a delayed release of Nitric Oxide into the blood. Ed Byrd (the creator of NO 2) called this the “pHyser3″ effect of creating a sustained hemodilation or blood flow in the body.

How does this help with bodybuilding?

Nitric Oxide helps with a sustained blood pump in your body. The blood vessels that deliver muscle building agents (nutrients, creatine) to your muscles are “forced open” for an extended period of time throughout the day. This means quicker recovery, enhanced muscle gains, greater strength, more endurance due to the prolonged pump NO2 provides. You know how you feel “pumped up” after a workout? Nitric oxide helps perpetuate this muscle pump effect.

Are there other health benefits to Nitric Oxide besides bodybuilding?

There is evidence that nitric oxide can prevent heart disease and stroke. The vasodilation effect nitric oxide helps protect the blood vessels from dangerous constriction. This increases the blood vessel flexibility to blood can circulate at a lower pressure. Nitric oxide may also help control platelet function, reduce artery plaque and even lower cholesterol.

Nitric oxide supplements is available at most supplement and health nutrition stores. Here are five nitric oxide products I would recommend:

-Nitrix by BSN. Nitrix has quickly gained the reputation as the world’s top Nitric Oxide (NO) supplements.

-NO-xplode by BSN. NO-xplode uses both creatine and nitrix oxide to help you explode you bodybuilding regimen.

-A-AKG by Pro-line. This is perhaps the most economical priced nitric oxide supplement I could find.

-Mid-Cycle by Fizogen. Mid Cycle effectively enhances nutrient uptake, increases cell-signaling vasodilation and promotes improved muscle torque and intercellular energy levels.

-Cold Fusion by Legal Gear. This bodybuilding supplements is especially appropriate for serious athletes looking to maximize muscle gains with NO2. Cold fusion has twice as much NO per serving than any other nitric oxide product.

You can find nitric oxide in almost any supplement store or the internet. I have experimented (and have been ripped off a few times) with several supplement stores. I found GNC was the most accessible but way too expensive. So far the company I have been most pleased with is Rocky Mountain Sports Nutrition. They offer the best selection of bodybuilding supplements and weight loss products I could find. When it came to prices and customer service they were second to nobody. The Portfolio Diet: The Solution to Heart Disease

What if there was a combination of foods that were as effective at lowering LDL cholesterol as prescription drugs? Would it be worth adding some new foods to what you eat each day to avoid medication?

This is what the latest in a series of research studies Dr. Jenkins from the University of Toronto shows. Studies have previously shown that various foods, such as nuts, soy protein, oat bran, and plant sterols all can have a cholesterol-lowering effect. But what if you combined all these foods together? Dr. Jenkins’ latest research shows that combining all these foods together is as effective as taking a statin drug. The results showed a 30.9% decrease in LDL cholesterol from the statin and a decrease of 28.2% from the portfolio combination of all these foods.

Dr. Jenkins is calling this a dietary portfolio, but it’s becoming known as ‘The Portfolio Diet’. The concept is to add all of these foods, in a type of portfolio plan, like investments, to cover all possibilities for better heart health. This is not a weight loss diet, however, although the concepts for weight loss and lowered cholesterol could certainly be combined, with proper education and guidance by a qualified nutrition expert.

What is the Portfolio Diet?

Just follow these guidelines:

1. Substitute soy foods for meat. Drink soy milk instead of milk and substitute soy protein foods for other meats.

2. Eat as much ’sticky’ fiber as possible. People in the study took three daily servings of natural psyllium supplements. Oats and barley replace other grains and preferred vegetables include eggplant and okra.

3. Include plant sterol-enriched margarines, such as benecol and Take Control. Plant sterols are also available in capsule form as dietary supplements.

4. A handful of nuts every day. In the study, almonds were eaten and the Almond Board of California offers portfolio diet recipes on its website (look at recipes on http://www.almondboard.com/), but any tree nut will reduce cholesterol.

Here are some examples of a typical day:

Breakfast - Include soy milk, oat bran cereal with chopped fruit and almonds, oatmeal bread with sterol-enriched margarine, and some jam.

Lunch - Soy lunchmeats, oat bran bread, bean soup, fruit.

Dinner - Stir fry with vegetables, tofu, fruit and almonds.

Snacks - Include nuts, yogurt, and soy milk thickened with a psyllium supplement such as Metamucil.

Has this diet shown to be effective?

Jenkins et al were curious how this diet would work in the real world, so they signed people up who said they wanted to lower their cholesterol levels. They told them what to eat and gave them sample menus — but they didn’t provide any prepared foods.

Dr. Jenkins said that about 30% of the people had a 20% reduction in their LDL cholesterol levels after six months. Another 30% had a 15% reduction in LDL levels, and another third failed to lower their cholesterol levels, believed to be because they were unable to follow the diet as strictly as those with good results. What seemed to be the biggest obstacle for people was eating soy food products. Dr. Jenkins said that most people could eat almonds and substitute plant sterol products for margarine.

Is the diet for you?

Many people are concerned about heart disease and stroke, especially if they are struggling with weight control and high blood cholesterol levels. However, many people are not comfortable going on prescription medications. Since this is an eating plan that does not eliminate food groups or follow some type of fad, there is no risk to going on this ‘diet’. In fact, it’s not really a ‘diet’ at all, but a way of eating. And no one has to do anything but substitute some of the recommended foods for foods they normally eat today.

So, let’s say you would like to try the diet, but, like many other Americans, are concerned about adding soy foods to your diet. You have never eaten them and don’t even know where to find them! Well, they are actually in your favorite supermarket already! It may be time to experiment, though, because not everyone is going to like all the soy foods that are available. For more on soyfoods, check out the Soyfoods Association of American at http://www.soyfoods.org/. Here is a list of foods to consider:

Soy milk. There are multiple brands and different fat levels. You can buy whole fat, low fat and non fat. You can buy ‘regular’ (no flavoring), or any number of flavors. I have personally found one brand that I like over others and you may have to experiment to find one you like, as well.

Edemame. These are frozen whole soybeans that are harvested when still green. They can be found in most health food stores, such as Trader Joes or Whole Foods Market, in the frozen food section, usually next to the lima beans. These can be found shelled or in the shell. You can add them to soups or stews or eat them by themselves. I like to eat them as my protein for breakfast.

Tofu. Also known as ‘bean curd’, tofu is a soft, cheese-like food made my curdling soymilk. The curds are then pressed into a solid block. There are different levels of firmness; silken, soft and firm. Silken is a creamy, custard-like product that works well with pureed or blended dishes. Soft tofu is best used in recipes that call for blended tofu, or in soups. The firm tofu is more dense and solid and holds up well in stir fry dishes, even on the grill. The firm tofu is higher in protein, fat and calcium than the other forms, but since this is a plant fat, this should not be an issue. For recipe ideas, see this link from the Indiana Soybean Board; http://www.soyfoods.com/soyfoodsdescriptions/tofu.html

Textured Vegetable (or Soy) Protein Products. This is the soyfood product that many soy burgers and other ‘meat substitute’ products contain. The best way to determine if these foods are for you are to experiment with a few options.

Miso. Miso is a rich, salty paste condiment that characterizes the essence of Japanese cooking. Traditionally, miso is made by combining with a grain, salt, and a mold culture and then aged in cedar vats for one to three years. Readers may recognize the name because this is a popular soup.

Soy nuts. Soy nuts are whole soybeans that have been soaked then baked. They can be found in snack isles and manufacturers now include soynuts in any number of coatings, including chocolate.

Tempeh. This is a traditional Indonesian food that is most commonly found in Asian stores. It is a chunky, tender soybean cake. It can be marinated and grilled or added to soups, casseroles, or even chili.

It can be very easy for some people to add nuts to their diet. In fact, it may be harder to not add too MANY nuts! It may also be ‘doable’ to add more sticky fiber to your diet, also, with a little planning. However, it may be a greater challenge to find soy foods that can be enjoyably substituted for meats you are used to eating. However, if your health depends on it, and you refuse medications, this may be a great thing to try, especially since there are no risks involved with adding these foods to your diet. Just remember that these are foods to be substituted, not added, to the diet. Since calories do also still count, adding extras to your current diet could result in weight gain, leading to new concerns.

Vitamin D, or Vitamin D Hormone?

Vitamin D deficiency is common in the United States and worldwide. It is known to be important in bone mineral metabolism but now we have information that it does much more.

Vitamins are generally known to be responsible for a single disease and appropriate supplementation should correct the disease. A hormone goes to distant tissues and makes multiple metabolic improvements. That’s vitamin D’s job.

Your levels of vitamin D should be much higher than previously thought. Certainly much higher than noted on the milk carton or vitamin pills in the local drug store. Here is the story for today.

Eight hundred to a thousand IU is needed in general but as we age we need much more. I like liquid formulations best because as you age D is more difficult to absorb. It is probably best to consume that thousand IU daily for consistency in improving all the things Vitamin D will do for you.

For example hip fracture drops 23% and other non-vertebral fractures drop 26%. We know about retarding bone loss as we age but did you that it works on the muscles as well? Lower extremity strength and improved walking were shown in several studies in older people. The risk of falling is improved 22%. It’s nice to have less muscle pain, walk a little faster and get out of a chair quicker than the other seniors. Arthritis is decreased in severity as well.

Many cancers are also significantly diminished in occurrence by increasing vitamin D. These include cancers of the colon, breast, and prostate. Other metabolic disorders include type 1 diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, possibly type 2 diabetes and multiple sclerosis.

Vitamin D is a potent modulator of activated T and B-lymphocytes, the workhorses of the immune system. Animal models show prevention of rheumatoid arthritis, and Crohn’s Disease of the bowel. Research has shown marked improvement in psoriasis as well.

If that isn’t enough, it is generally noted that there is a distinct improvement in well being and energy, often in the first week. All these improvements were reported in Endocrine News, a publication of the Endocrine Society in the August/September issue 2005 beginning on page 10.

It’s remarkable what you can do for yourself when you couple reliable information about health into action for your life. It’s not just good it’s thrilling. It’s the way life is supposed to be. 

It’s your time.

How Interesting Is Vinegar?

Lowly vinegar, and we are talking about apple cider vinegar or brown rice vinegar, has several uses for health. Standard white (grain) vinegar is distilled by a process which removes nutrients.

Many claims have been made for the benefits of vinegar, and it is a fact that vinegar, whether used as a supplement or a cooking ingredient, provides calcium, potassium, magnesium, copper, phosphorus and iron. It also does NOT contain saturated fat, cholesterol, or sodium. Vinegar has been used as a supplement or medical treatment for thousands of years.

In addition to the results from the use of vinegar, it is inexpensive, easy to use (take it straight, mixed with water, or in a dressing), and not likely to cause adverse reactions.

Cider vinegar and brown rice vinegar appears to be of help as an antiseptic, nutritional supplement, and digestive aid.

VINEGAR AS AN ANTISEPTIC

Some studies have shown that vinegar makes an excellent general antiseptic. A 5% solution of vinegar (straight from the bottle) kills 99 percent of bacteria, 82 percent of mold, and 80 percent of germs (viruses) in household cleaning use. For personal health, vinegar may be used as an antiseptic for abrasions,to reduce itch from poison ivy or mosquito bites, and even to help rehydrate sunburned skin. Vinegar appears to inhibit the growth of microbes, may aid immunity in cases of allergy, toxicity, infection, and even some food poisoning. It can be used to clean wounds, although it WILL burn.

Vinegar has long been a staple in such simple remedies as vinegar and salt as a gargle for sore throat, vinegar and honey for a cough, and vinegar rinse for dandruff.

As A DIGESTIVE AID

We are all familiar with the feeling known as heartburn, and most of us will pop an antacid such as Rolaids or TUMs, or swill down Mylanta in an attempt to decrease stomach acid. However, in some cases of heartburn and acid reflux, especially as we age, the problem may actually be NOT ENOUGH STOMACH ACID rather than too little. If the antacid doesn’t seem to do the trick, you might try a spoonful of vinegar or two per day.

Vinegar neutralizes many toxins taken into the body

AS A NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENT

Vinegar is believed to be beneficial in the detoxification of the body, breaking down various deposits (including fatty deposits) and promoting the health of internal organs. Cider vinegar oxidates the blood, aiding in general health. Some studies have shown the benefits of cider vinegar in conditions ranging from arthritis to heart disease. While some studies have indicated a possible use of vinegar as part of a weight loss program, there does not seem to be any conclusive proof at this time that vinegar itself would CAUSE weight loss.

The Benefits of Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is a plant that looks like a cactus, but is actually a member of the lily family. It grows in Africa, Asia and the warmer parts of America and Europe. The particular kind of Aloe Vera used for natural remedies has the Latin name Aloe barbadensis and its leaves contain a gel that is rich in therapeutic properties.

Aloe has been used medicinally for over 6,000 years. The ancient Egyptians used it to heal battle wounds and cure infections. The early Greeks used it for relieving blisters, burns and leg ulcers as well as healing bowel and stomach disorders.

Today it is found in health products in the form of gels, juices and creams, and also as an ingredient in some cosmetic products.

How it Works

Aloe Vera contains 75 known ingredients including:

All the vitamins (except Vitamin D).

Enzymes that aid digestion and reduce inflammation.

The minerals needed for the enzymes to function.

Long-chain sugars that help to re-balance the digestive system.

Saponins, which have an anti-microbial effect against bacteria, viruses, fungi and yeast.

Twenty of the 22 amino acids (including seven out of the eight essential amino acids that can’t be produced by the body).

It’s thought that the synergistic effect of these ingredients is what gives Aloe Vera its power.

It is only recently that the scientific establishment has started to carry out proper studies of Aloe Vera but the results so far are encouraging. It appears to have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and restorative properties. In one study it was found to have a beneficial effect in lowering the risk factors among patients with heart disease. Another study, started in 2005 at the University of Strathclyde, is investigating the effects of Aloe Vera against super-bugs such as MRSA, after finding that it has the ability to destroy bacteria such as E.coli.

The Benefits of Aloe Vera

Small-scale studies and anecdotal evidence suggests that Aloe Vera may be beneficial in the following cases:

Applied as a cream for:

- Healing small cuts, insect stings, grazes and wounds.

- Healing and repairing skin tissue after burns, including sunburn.

- Healing skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, acne, general itching.

- Cosmetic uses such as moisturising and improving the elasticity of the skin.

Ingested as a gel/juice for:

- Digestive conditions such as IBS, peptic ulcers, acid reflux, Chron’s disease, candida etc.

- Musculo-skeletal conditions such as arthritis, rheumatism, etc.

- Immune-related conditions such as asthma, hayfever and even ME.

- Overall protection (as an antioxidant) against free radicals.

How to Take Aloe Vera

You can grow your own Aloe Vera plant indoors and use it as a quick remedy for minor burns and grazes. Just break off a leaf and apply the gel directly.

If you are buying an Aloe Vera product, always purchase those made from 100% pure Aloe Vera. Look out for the International Aloe Science Council Seal of Approval as a guide.

Natural fruit flavourings may be added to Aloe Vera drinks to make them more palatable, but avoid those that contain artificial flavours and colourings. Clear juices should be avoided as it means the pulp (containing much of the benefit) has been strained. Also avoid those products that use the whole plant, as the outer leaf contains a latex that has a strong laxative effect. If you experience side-effects, such as diarrhoea, you should reduce your dose and consider switching products.

The words ‘gel’ and ‘juice’ are often used interchangeably, so some drinks can be described as gels. If taking Aloe Vera internally you would normally take between 2 fl oz (60ml) and 6 fl oz (180ml) per day depending on the acuteness of your condition. If you start out on a high dose you would expect to reduce to the lower doses by about six weeks.

To experience the full benefits of an Aloe Vera product it is often recommended that it is used regularly for a minimum period of three months.

Boost Your Energy! How Alkaline Water Can Heal Your Body

Understanding the Benefits of Alkaline, Pure Water

There has been much discussion over the past few years about the quality of the water we drink and the effects that this may have on our health. Many health experts believe that the low-quality of tap water in the UK can pose health concerns, particularly if we rely upon this as our main source of water when consuming the recommended 2+ litres each day.

As a result, millions have turned to bottled water - creating a £1.57 billion market in just one generation. However, with prices constantly on the rise, and serious question marks over quality (is it really any better than tap water) - individuals are now looking to increase the quality of water in their own home.

What is Alkaline Water? Why Make Our Water Alkaline?

Water is one of the most important factors when becoming and staying healthy and vibrant. Our bodies are 70% water and our blood is 94% water - if we follow the recommendation to drink at least two litres of water per day and this water is acid and polluted - imagine what this will do to our bodies?!

As the majority of the foods we eat create acid wastes in our system, it is important to drink alkaline water in order to maintain a optimal health and energy, particularly as acid water (less than pH 7) is a hotbed of microorganisms, bacteria and viruses.

Acid wastes (from the lifestyles we lead - not only from food and drink, but also from stress and other pollutants) are dumped into the bloodstream and lymph, and then are transported to the liver and kidneys for the detoxification processing and elimination. The pH level of our internal fluids affects every living cell in our bodies and the effect that over-acidification can have upon the health of our bodies is immense, with a chronically over acidic pH creating an extremely negative environment which affects all cellular functions from the beatings of the heart to the neural workings of the brain.

In order to hydrate your body optimally, you need to drink water that is alkaline and mineral rich. Alkaline water helps to neutralize acids and remove toxins from the body. Alkaline water also acts as a conductor of electrochemical activity from cell to cell. Ideally, water should have a ph between 9 and 10, and you should be drinking 3-4 liters of it daily. As you hydrate your body properly, you’ll develop more of a thirst for water. Food cravings are often the body’s cry for water. You might already have more of a thirst than you even realize.

Home Water Distillers, Ionisers and Filters

When we think of increasing the quality of our drinking water, we naturally think of a water filter such as a Britta. Make no mistake, these handy and affordable filters go a long way towards making our drinking water more beneficial and healthful. However, if you are looking for life-giving, energy-boosting nourishment from your drinking water then these only really scratch the surface.

Taking your water from being something that simply quenches your thirst (or goes in the kettle) to being something that you crave due to the energy and vitality it gives you is not a complex, difficult process, nor does it have to be expensive. You can massively increase the quality of your drinking water using one of the following techniques:

  • Home Water Distillers

Water distillers heat tap water electrically to boiling point. The purified condensation then drains into a clean container - leaving all of the impurities behind in the boiling chamber. Distilled water comes closes to rain water, which would be our ideal water source if the atmosphere was not so polluted!

Distillation kills and removes bacteria, viruses, cysts and heavy metals. Although there is some debate about the effects of distilled water removing beneficial minerals as well as these disease forming metals and germs, it is useful to note that the mineral content in water is so minute that one would have to drink approximately six-hundred 8oz glasses of water to attain the RDA of calcium and 1,800+ glasses to fulfil their daily requirement of magnesium.

Another common myth surrounding distilled water is that it leaches minerals from the body. This is not only false, but impossible. The human body is incredibly efficient and effective and in no way could allow water to force out essential body elements. What distilled water does do, is transport inorganic minerals and toxins out of the body, helping to cleanse and purify the body’s internal environment.

Distilled water also has more oxygen ions and fewer hydrogen ions, making the water far less acidic and more alkaline than other types of water.

  • Water Ionisers

Water ionisers are, unsurprisingly, products that ionise water. The water is ionised (electrically enhanced) by running it over positive and negative electrodes. This separates the water into alkaline (70%) and acidic (30%). This is exceptionally beneficial as the alkaline water is then used for drinking, while the acidic water can be used on the outside of the body as it is proven to kill many types of bacteria.

The quality of ionised water is reputed to surpass water from any other source. For instance, ionised water is the only type of water that has a low surface tension which allows for greater absorption of water and nutrients into the body.

Some water ionisers also come with an alkalinity adjustment which allows you to set your preferred level of alkalinity. This is an incredibly useful benefit which is unique to this type of machine.

  • Reverse Osmosis Water Filters

Reverse Osmosis utilises a fine membrane to filter water - known as hyperfiltration. This allows the removal of bacteria, salts, sugars, proteins, particles, dyes, and other damaging elements.

Reverse osmosis uses a membrane that is semi-permeable. This allows the water to pass through whilst the contaminants are removed. In the majority of reverse osmosis filters, this membrane is self-cleaning, allowing for the purest water to be provided.

Reverse osmosis units can use between 2-3 gallons of water to make 1 gallon up to as much as 10 gallons of water or more, to make 1 gallon of pure water.

As with distilled water, reverse osmosis water is far more alkaline than tap or bottled water.
