bore of the firearm. This bullet is usually formed by forcing the lead into the cup shaped copper case. Although some jacketed bullets use pure copper cases, most use an alloy of copper
called gliding metal which contains about 90%-95% copper and 5%-10% Zinc. This alloy leaves less copper residue behind and is much harder in nature. Even though, some residue is left in the gun barrel after firing these bullets, it is much far less
compared to lead bullets. In addition, this does not seem to affect the accuracy of the bullet. Jacketed bullets are available for both handguns such as pistols and also
rifles.

It was in England in 1941 that British scientists John Whinfield and James Dickson first made polyester fabric. American company, Dupont, began to produce polyester cloth in the United States in 1950.

The ability of poly cloth to resist both fading and shrinkage has made it the most widely used fabric, since 1960, in the manufacturing of clothes. Polyester also became a common option in the production of table linens, chair coverings, place mats, table skirts and aprons. The use of 100% polyester cloth in the production of napkins was not as well received as it was for the production of clothing and home decor. Napkins made of 100% poly lacked absorption and did not have the feel of cotton, which one associated with pricy table linen.

Along came spun polyester fabric. Spun polyester was first developed for industrial use and home furnishings. In an endeavor to make a boat cover from spun poly, Johnston Industries inadvertently produced a spun polyester that, compared to its predecessor, was lighter in weight with an finer feel. They also discovered that dying made the cloth even softer and determined that this was a material that would be ideal for tablecloths.

Johnston Industries felt so strongly about their find that they ceased the development of boat covers. Johnston Industries decided that, in order to create a better spun polyester that they had created, it would be essential to hire Bob Pomeranz, an expert in textiles. Bob’s expert knowledge of spinning machines made it easy for him to spin a cloth free from pilling, the annoying fiber clusters that detract from a cloth’s appearance. Ultimately, Johnston Industries made a table linen that was durable. It would keep its colour, released dirt and resisted shrinking.

Spun poly could now be utilized to produce table linens with the texture of cotton fiber fabric. Best of all, unlike cotton fiber, a spun polyester tablecloth would stay colorfast , even after being laundered umpteen times. To a greater extent, the more you washed a spun polyester table linen the softer and better it would feel to the touch.

Over time the textile industry began to utilize spun poly for chair covers, place mats, table skirts, aprons and even napkins. In fact, spun poly fabric, with its absorption ability, made for great table napkins, as opposed to table napkins produced of 100% poly material.

Both 100% polyester and spun poly have their place, not just in the home, but in restaurants, nursing homes, hospitals and the party rental industry as well.

Headset failure due to avoidable cable damage causes lost productivity, repairs and on going hassle.

Most damage is caused completely unintentionally.

Some terrible things are done to headset cables - they’re often the victims of unseen abuse and when they stop working they’re roundly condemned. Of course sometimes, they can be faulty at the outset, but mostly when they fail its usually due to some kind of trauma.

Either the repetitious tugging and twisting, ‘dying by a thousand cuts’ variety or the catastrophic ‘oops, that used to be my headset’ as the wearer moves away from their phone, forgetting to disconnect themselves.

Unfortunately, many users pull and stretch cables and connectors inadvertently, but place enormous stresses upon the equipment, well beyond its capability. This might be tolerable if they were made of steel. But in time, these actions and the odd “accident”, create problems.

An example: I called into see a lady client a few years ago after she complained that her headset was only fairly new and wasn’t working properly. It was ‘cutting in and out’. I waited in the company’s reception area to speak with her about the problem.

I could see she was on a phone call but wasn’t aware that I was waiting for her. As I waited, I watched, my face contorting as she played with the headset cable, sub-consciously twisting and tugging it around her fingers - no wonder she had problems with it. I suggested that she get herself a stress ball instead!

When in the hands of a ‘wrecker’, in time, sometimes no time, things start to happen. They’ll be talking and all of sudden a crackling or hissing sound starts to join the conversation. Eventually becoming unbearable where the headset can’t be used any longer. Other symptoms include call ‘drop outs’ and volume fading in and out.

Some pointers:

1. Take care when disconnecting a headset from its base or at the quick disconnect, if it has one. Check the cable to see if there are thumb grips on the two plugs.

2. Unfortunately it goes on all the time - never disconnect a cable by pulling or yanking the cabling either side of the actual connector.

3. ‘Quick disconnectors’ really don’t like to be twisted or bent - this squashes the pins inside and eventually they wont make good contact anymore and this is where the ‘hiss’ and other ‘activity’ starts to develop, ruining your phone calls. So, make sure to pull the two halves straight apart without bending or twisting.

4. Clothing clips. If the cable has one, use it. This helps distribute the weight of the cable across your body and lessens the stress upon the cable, and its more comfortable for the wearer as well.

5. Don’t let the cable drape under the desk and onto the floor. It’s likely you’ll run over the cable and damage it and there have been people seriously injured, tripping over cables.

Something that creates concern in service departments is when a headset comes in for repair and the sender has tightly wrapped the cables several times around - say, an amplifier or something solid - stretching them.

What’s ironic is that even if the item wasn’t necessarily faulty when they sent it - it is now after they have elongated the cable and destroyed its ability to coil neatly and perhaps have created additional wiring issues as well.

So treat your cords well, after all, they’re only made of wire and plastic and even the cables on the best headsets are only good for a few “accidents”. The cost of replacement is quite high and definitely inconvenient.

In the world today, if you don’t have a cell phone you’re out of
touch. How do you pick the right phone, the right plan or the
right company? There are many factors to that should be taken
into consideration. If you have a large family, one of the many
family plans could be the ticket. Some family plans share a pool
of minutes. This can be a good or bad thing depending on how
good your family is at sharing. If you have teenagers who tend
to talk quite a bit on the cell phones (and most do these days),
this may not be the best way to go although buying a separate
plan for each teen could be very expensive. One idea is the
“pay-as-you go” plan. These plans use minutes from a pre-paid
bank of a set duration. At least this way you have control over
how much you spend each month. Another type of family plan lets
family members pay for their own calling, but if family members
sign up, everybody gets a better price then if they had signed
up individually. Some plans also give you a break on the price
of the cell phones themselves. Be sure to check out these types
of plans carefully. If you are just shopping for yourself;
carefully evaluate what you think your cell phones usage will
be. If it’s just for emergencies or occasional use the afore
mentioned pay-as-you go plans may be sufficient. You could also
buy the cheapest plan available. Some are as low as $20 a month.
Most people however, use their cellphones a lot and need many
minutes. If this is the case, pay-as-you-go plans can get very
expensive and it makes more sense to buy a plan that gives you
several hundred minutes worth of time each month. Another thing
to consider is the options. Does the plan come with roaming,
long-distance, text-messaging, etc. included? Are these extras
important to you? If they are then be sure to total up the costs
of each plan. Some include extras in the plan cost, some don’t.
Don’t sign up for a plan only to find out that you have to pay
additional costs for the features you want that another plan
included free or for the same price. Lastly, do the cell phones
available for the plan come with the features you want or need.
